New Year, new goals! Did you know improving your overall health can actually increase your chances of trying to conceive? Most healthy couples will conceive within 6 months to a year but if you’re still having trouble after a year with no success, it may be time to schedule a fertility checkup.
If one of your goals this year is to start or grow your family, you may also be considering some health goals. Here are 3 tips to help you on your fertility journey:
- Limit alcohol and caffeine consumption. While there’s not a strong link between caffeine consumption and decreased fertility, there are some studies showing that overconsumption may delay your chances of conceiving. As for alcohol, studies do show that it can negatively affect your fertility. While you don’t have to cut either out completely, it’s a good idea to decrease your consumption of both if you are having several cups of coffee a day or have alcohol regularly.
- Try to reach a healthy weight. Weight is directly connected to your menstrual cycle so if you are underweight or overweight, it may be a cause of unusual periods. Find a workout plan that works for you and that you will enjoy. Start slow and work your way up if it helps you to create a habit.
- Eat healthy! Surprise, there’s no magical diet for fertility but making healthy choices helps! Add some more veggies to your diet along with good, quality lean proteins. You don’t have to cut out all the fun stuff but do your best to limit them and incorporate more healthy options into your regular diet.
